I understand it's OEM Refurb but at ~$40 it's a great spare or second computer board for playing around with. (First deal I've posted so hope it's at least warm). Instant savings of $93.01!!

Here's the Goods (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=110255&Category_Code=AMD939)

It says "all sales are final" though. What if it comes broken?

NICE. This'll go good with whatever CPU deal I can get from Monarch later tonight.

Curiously, the CAPTCHA image text was "FLTHI".

will it come with the sound card?

That's the other thing I was worried about. It says "no accessories". It's not to great a deal if you get a broken motherboard with no sound board... and can't return it.

I wouldn't be worried about the sound (I don't like on board sound anyway) but the SLI bridge would HAVE to be included.

Considering they have awesome coupons back on, Monarch has regained my respect. I saved this item in my cart yesterday night, think it'd go through?

I got the board and it came with most of the accessories* in a brown box. One big problem so far: the "SLI switch" circuit board wasn't included (for selecting single x16/SLI x8). That's a pretty essential piece of the motherboard and why would anyone remove it in the first place? Time to call Monarch this afternoon.

By some strange coincidence I also found another AN8 SLI at Fry's this morning for $49 on clearance. I bought it. :D That one was complete. If anyone wants a FATAL1TY AN8 for $99, there's one at the Woodland Hills Fry's. I don't know if the Guru panel, OTES RAMFlow and a couple of fans are worth the extra $50, especially when you have to one day admit you bought something "Fatal1ty" branded. :p

* missing from the Monarch AN8 SLI: sound card riser, SLI bridge and SLI bridge retention thing. Much better than I expected.

i'm assuming the board cannot function without hte selector card, but just wanted to double check..

It functions, just not very well. With the board missing, only the first PCI-E video slot works at x8 speed. All the other PCI-E slots are disabled and it's possible to damage the motherboard by trying to use the other slots.

$5 UPS Ground for the key not bad

http://www.abit-usa.com/abitparts/miscellaneous.php

So I consider that board + 5$ sli key a steal.

So I consider that board + $11 sli key a steal.

When I had the board it was a decent overclocker with my 3700+ Sandy

So I consider that board + $11 sli key a steal.I'd rather have it free. :p I already paid $47 for the board and shipping, and it's missing the audio max card, SLI bridge and bridge retainer clip.

Like I mentioned above, I picked up a complete retail AN8 SLI board yesterday from Fry's for $49.90. $47 + $11 for a still incomplete board is kind of a rip off, especially when key was supposed to be included in the first place.

Update: I got around to testing the Monarch AN8 SLI and of course the board is DOA.

It fails at POST code 25 on the LED, failure to initialize the video card with just memory, a CPU and video card installed. I used the SLI switch from the AN8 SLI I got from Fry's. Video doesn't work in slot 1 with the switch in normal or SLI mode or without it, and it doesn't work in slot 2 with the switch in SLI mode. Not a huge surprise since someone probably swiped the SLI switch from a "broken" board. The AN8 SLI I got from Fry's works perfectly with the exact same hardware.

Worse, Monarch hasn't called me back yet or responded to my email about the missing part.

---
I'm really getting sick of this "refurbished" game, especially on old hardware. The seller can't return the broken junk to the manufacturer or distributor, so they "sell" it to someone who can then bug the manufacturer for repair/replacement. People talk badly about those who take advantage of online stores by returning user damaged items. But those same stores are doing some very shady things to customers themselves (yeah, i'm talking about both of the advertisers on this page).

edit: monarch replied to my email and is sending the missing part. It cost me $5 in shipping to RMA the board to Abit yesterday. $52 so far is still a decent deal. And the other $49 (complete in retail box from Fry's) AN8 SLI is working great.

edit2: and the nightmare continues... I got the AN8 SLI RMA back from Abit today. It's a refurb board but it doesn't recognize any CPU. The LED shows "8.7." which means check CPU voltage, and is also the error when a CPU isn't installed. Time for a second RMA for a second DOA board. Luckily I still have the AN8 SLI from Fry's and it continues to work fine. To make things worse, it's been a week and I still have not received the SLI key from Monarch yet. So I'm up to $57 so far after shipping it off Monday for this incomplete and still DOA x 2 motherboard.
