I just ordered one. I say it's a good deal. Even if it's PATA. I'll put into my brother's comp for storage.

PATA is...Parallel ATA. Parallel data transfer in theory is faster than Serial...That's all I'm saying...And don't flame me please!

will it work with current boards?

will it work with current boards?
yes. PATA uses those hideous and archaeic ribbon cables that hard drives have been using since the dawn of time. As far as I know all boards still currently support the parallel ATA interface.

They use the same cable, I think that is all you need to know.

There is no rebate and I don't think outpost or the sunnyvale store ships to Canada.

The 16MB version is available for $89.99 with no rebate in the local (LA area) Fry's I went to yesterday. It had a green card with the lower price on the shelf. The 7200.8 (8MB) has a lower seek time: 8ms vs 11ms for the 7200.9 (16MB). The 7200.9 is slightly quieter by 1-2dB and has a faster internal transfer rate. I went for the cheaper model since it's only a storage drive anyways.

Eide=ide=pata
Eide=ide=pata
All 3 are used interchangeably and the original IDE standard died several years ago. All modern "IDE" drives are compatible with EIDE as a minimum. The legacy of the "AT" portion of ATA (16-bit ISA bus introduced with the IBM PC/AT) is that IDE drives still do 16 bit transfers.
I remember back in 1990 or 1991 (not new at that time) when I saw an IDE drive for the first time. It was some cheesy brand that no longer exists and had a 30MB capacity. I remember MFM and RLL quickly fading away after that.
