I work at Best Buy as a member of the Geek Squad and recently we have found out an interesting fact.
All of the current HP laptops that my store has in stock that have card readers are having problems with the card reader.
There is a driver fix for this issue so you can and should still buy a HP laptop, but if you have card reader problems instead
of returning it and getting another "broken" one, just update the driver.
At my store we are doing our best to install this driver in all HP notebooks before the customer takes them home.
We are doing this as a free service in order to reduce returns and exchanges.
I hope this is helpful information to you folks and I want to make it clear that I am not suggesting that HP laptops "suck".
There is a easily fixable issue with these products and it was not something done on purpose by HP.
