I bought a brand new 400 GB Western Digital SATA HDD from Newegg.com. I hooked it up, but now my computer acts weird. Here is what it does.

1. It doesn't go as fast as it should. My IDE drive went alot faster.
2. Alot of times I will go to restart it and I have to play around with it to get it to boot. Like It will show the starting Windows XP screen and then it will reset and give me the option to go into safe mode, or start windows normally, and that is where it will randomly boot or not. Sometimes it will run chkdsk and then boot.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Is the XP have SP2 in it?

Maybe the power supply isnt powerful enough to run all the hardware by chance?

I doubt it has to do with the power supply. It is a gaming computer and it has a 500 W power supply. In fact the motherboard it came with already had the connectors for SATA onboard. I will try to update my windows xp and see if that works.

Just because it's a 500w power supply doesn't mean it's not a power supply issue. It could be way overrated for power and only put out 500 watts and 10 degrees celcius. OR it could have bad components in it.

My guess though, would be it's a cable issue not being on correctly, OR a driver issue.
