Rappy for Apps and SATA 7200 RPM for Storage

I bought a raptor 150 for loading apps and while it is fast I have smoethings like movies pictures Large game patches and downloadable software that take up alot of space.

Would it be a good idea to get a second HD just for storage like a WD 250DB or 320GB?

Or since I already have a Raptor 150 should I buy another? I'm thinking I should see most of the performance gains from loading apps and games etc not when using for storage?

Also any good deals right now? I guess I should stick to WD...

I don't think you'd see much or any benefit using another raptor if all you're going to do is keep big files on it. Go with a WD2500KS if you're worried about actually doing performance-needing things with it.

Ok, so I was looking at prices and the 400GB drive is the best cost/ storage of the WD 7200 SATA 16MB drives...

How much less performance am I going to see witha 400 GB vs a 250 GB. I would like to save some space but I can fit up to 4 HD's so I guess that is not too much of an issue.

Is the 250 GB still recomended over the 400GB? 400GB has a $20 rebate

It's faster but nothing like the raptor lol...The difference is really negligable, but I mgiht as well get larger drives now in case I decide to go raid 5 later..


It looks like the RE drive is a bit better than the SE drive? Even in a non raid configuration?

Also Newegg has a rebate and they are local (but no brick and morter store). So although they may not package well they tend to get stuff here in perfect condition)

I checked out zipzoom fly and there is no rebate and the last HD they sent me the box was crushed (my raptor 150 was in it). The HD works but who knows due to ruff shipping maybe it will crap out earlier than expected....

QFT on the RE series of WD drives. Very minimal difference between the Raptor and the RE as far as performance when mixing the two. Plus, a 5 year warranty is nice to have.
Something about Enterprise drives that make you smile. :)

I don't see why there would be minimal difference in performance.

The Raptor will have all the installed applications (anythnig that is typicaly loaded OS etc), the other drive will only be for storage (things that are not typicaly accessed as often, movies MP3's etc). So I won't be loading any applications or games etc off of it. Why would it slow the raptor drive down?

But shoudl I go for the RE or SE drive? the SE drive is $10 cheaper.

I heard newegg sucks on shipping HD's but im pretty tempted since it does not have to ship very far! I don't think I will order from ZZF again after recieving my last package although the HD works.

Anyone of any other places with a good deal ont hese drives?

I am still looking for some advice on this purchase. I went to fry's and they are selling the SE drive there for $290! I can get it from newegg for only $180, or the RE for $190!.

However I have been doing some reading that says I will have problems using an RE Drive without a raid controller. Is this true? Am I looking at buying the wrong HD? It also appears alot of people are having drive failures with the new WD drives? Should I be concerned?
