ok, a question to get some thoughts for a customer....

my customer has brand X board, with brand X raid controller (a Abit with SGI controller i THINK). We can't get this particular board anymore, and he would be getting an Asus with a Promise controller....

now, he has a Raid 0 setup based on the raid controller from the Abit board, does that mean his raid set is lost? or is it possible that the Promise controller will read from it? Anyone with similar experiences?

thanks!

matt

SGI? Silicon Image maybe? A promise controller almost definitely won't read it, and you're on shaky ground even with another SilImage. I hope you're keeping backups - if so, problem solved: move disks over, recreate raid 0, restore from backups.

That's the best way to do it. Then smack them over the head for using RAID0. That just complicates matters.
