Okay, I went to my aunts house and took a HD out of a computer that died, psu is dead for sure, other stuff is unknown, but the HD works. She knows it works becuase she went to a mom and pop comp store and they tested it. So she asked me if she could plug it into a computer to get data off, as the guys at the comp store told her it might break something else.

I told her that I was pretty positive that it wouldnt break anything, but she wanted me to make sure. So I told her that I would check online, with the HD experts. :D This is were you guys come in. Can someone confirm that it wouldnt break anything, or ruin something in the computer that I would put it in?

Thank you. :)

that mom and pop store is either covering their ass, or doesnt know jack shit. did it break the pc they tested it on? didn't think so. you'll be fine.

It won't break anything, but be warned, anything in a system that's been hit with a power surge can go for no apparent reason. I've done alot of repair work on lightning strike systems for a small shop.

You should be fine getting data off it, I wouldn't keep anything important on the drive if you keep using it though.

It's not like the HDD is suffering from a STD from the ESD, and will spread it to other things :D Your concern should be getting the data transferred ASAP to another drive to be safe.

Thats what I figured. They want to destroy the drive, after they get a few things off of it.

Thank you. :D
