What the title says. I just don't understand it. It seems texas, verginia, delaware, etc all have fairly regular LAN parties, but I just don't see hardly any for the SF Bay Area, and esp one attented by [H] peeps. :( I have never been to a LAN Party yet, and would like to try one that isn't all impersonal/commercial at a cybercafe. Any suggestions, hope for me? It's kind of frustrating becuase I live in the heart of geekdom, silicon valley. But I see rednecks in the hills haveing more LANs then geeks in the cities here.
what gives?

If you can't find out about any, I recommend holding your own. Start out with like a 12 man LAN at your house or something, and then slowly increase the number of gamers at each LAN. So for instance, at the second have 16 people, at the third have 24, at the fourth have 30, etc. By the time you reach 30 you will probably need to find a location other than a house as your average house probably can't power 30+ computers.
Also, if your thinking "Well, gee, that sounds great but I don't know that many who are into PC gaming", it's actually a lot easier to find people that are into PC gaming than you might think. All you do is invite your friends, and have your friends invite their friends, who can in turn invite their friends, etc. You will meet tons of new people and form new friendships.
Heck, if you manage to keep getting more and more people to show up at your LANs, you might eventually end up in charge of a 100-Man LAN or something. You never know, it could happen. You need to start somewhere.

I agree that there arent nearly enough LANs in Silicon Valley, but they do exsist. Theres actually a few really good ones.
The best way to find out about local lans, especially the smaller house lan types is though local groups.. such as my clan (shameless plug): www.mowersclan.com
Were mostly based in and around san jose, and if you hang out in our forums you'll be able to find out about a lot of the events that go on around the bay.
As for the bigger established and regularly scheduled lan events, there used to be lots of them a few years ago, but now there are only two.
The Silicon Valley Fragfest, which is probably the biggest. Our last event had close to 100 people. This one only happens once or twice a year.

Ascendancy Gaming. Happens in San Fran, and is usually between 30 and 40 people. Goes on about 4 times a year.
