I've have a new case that I bought but the power supply in it is CRAP (450w my arse more like 100w). I've come across a Dynex 500w PSU. It retails at BB for I think $105.00 but I can get it for $35 or so. I've searched for Dynex on your site, but no one seems to know anything abou them. Here are the specs. Should go for it or move on?

2x 512MB PC3200 RAM
160GB 7200RPM HDD
16x DVD-Buner
16x/48x DVD/CD-RW drive (oem, getting left out of new case)
1x 80mm Aux Cool fan

Future Upgrades include:
SLI or Crossfire capable ATX motherboard
3 or 4 drive SATA-RAID5

Anybody have an opinion? I have to let this guy know by 4, but I don't what to buy crap. Please help

Personally, I wouldnt.. Not the kind of PSU I would buy..if you have to buy OEM from store, get an Antec.

I went ahead and told him I'd take it off his hands. He bought it for his computer, but it wouldn't fit (HP). He couldn't return it though because nothing was wrong with it. It's been sitting in his office for a couple months. He's bringnig it by on his way home. He's leaving for two weeks, so I needed to let him know something. Wish me luck, I'll let you know the outcome. It's got to be better than the 450w (ha!) POS that came with my case.

Should be hopefully..

Ive heard not BAD things about dynex as I stupidly bought a fan im using currently on my HSf until I can get my parents to buy another one for me online and it isnt too bad, but they arent CRAP products, but I'd say average.

Good luck!

As long as it doesn't stink up my house like some Powmax reviews I've read, I'll be happy. He paid 105 for it a couple or few months ago, and I'm paying him 25. He dropped the price to entice me into buying it from him. He just "wanted to get rid of it." If it'll last through my upgrades then I'll count it as a bonus.

So 12V2 features a 10% load regulation?

I think that both the 12V rails fall under that third 5% and the negative rails are 10% because if you notice there's less percentages than there are rails...

Yeah. Negative rails are allowed to fluctuation 10% from +/- because they're not used for anything critical.

oops, sorry about that, one of the 5%'s was left out when I typed it up. there's a 4rh 5% before the 10%'s. So, I'm in the clear as far as that goes? I've got it sitting right here, but haven't put it in yet. I don't want to undertake that project until this weekend. My wife will kill me if I have my computer gutted on her kitchen table until I have time to finish it up. I still have to transfer it to the new case and all.

I finally got this PSU put in and it's voltages were within 1% on all rails.for the 10 minutes I watched them. This may be in my head, but my entire system feels snappier.

Can going from a dinky 300w PSU to thsi heavy ass 500w PSU make my system run faster? Again I'm running a Athlon 64 3000+ with PCI Express, 7200 RPM HDD, and two CD-Burners and two stick of 512MB ram.

What number (starting with the letter "E") is underneath the "UR" logo on the PSU label?

The old PSU (the 300w, not the 450w which I trashed) has E 186010

Its going to take me a few minutes to get the new one's E number. I've got to shut down and yank the supply.

Ok, I was wrong, the label was right on the left side. Didn't have to pull it.

There were two E numbers.
E 181356(N) and E 181356(C)

What are these numbers gonnig to tell you other than who actually made it?

Yeah those pictures are identical to the one I have. Even down to the label. Different name on it (DYNEX vs EG Evergreen), but same silver/gray label and text/table/logo layout. The inside of this thing is pretty crowded and has some of the biggest capacitors I've ever seen inside an electronic device.

You can't hear that big fan in it. Of course it might be drowned out by my 80mm case and cpu fans, but it doesn't add to the noise like my old PSU did.

My CPU temps have dropped about 6C. I used to get about 50C on idle, now I sit at 44C on idle. There's definately a lot more air being pulled through the case. Those temps are off mind you. My CPU temp would read 39C at boot up when it had been about 20-22C in the room all night.

Now if it lasts more than a month (average time for crap failure I've noticed) I think I'll be good to go. But then I only paid $25 for it.
