Hey guys,

I have major cooling problems with my lian-li pc-65. It is like an oven inside literally. I hate having the fans on max power because they are so loud for case fans if you ask me.

Has any here replaced their pc-65 case fans? If so what did you get?

Thanks!
George

yeah i did i am on my 4th set now

1.) Coolermaster NeonLED Fans's << Nice and bright fans and 32cfm @ 25dba... Quieter then the stock fans and the temps went down compared to the stock Adda fans
2.) SilenX Fans << It was quieter but the temps went up..Prob cuz they dont push as much air as they are rated for
3.) Panaflow L's << Same noise as the SilenX fans but more air is being pushed
4.) Zalman ZM-F1 << very quiet and push 20 cfm at 5V but if needed can push 40 cfm at 34 dba ( loud )

I am thinking replacing all my fans with the following ones

Silverstone FN82 << utilizes 90mm fan blades...
http://svc.com/fn82.html

But i realized thay my temperatures arent that much better when the fans are at 12V compared to 5V so I run them at 5V all the time for quietness.

can 2 of those silverstones actually fit in the front side by side? To me it looks like a 90mm fan with 80mm fittings... so basically its a 90mm fan :P

I dunno

check this badboy at:
http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/silenx_ixtrema_fans/index.shtml

It doesn't really increase our CFM though at full speed because the ADDA's push out 33CFM i am pretty sure

the ratings of those fans are off...They dont push as much as air as they claim and they arent as quiet as they claim them to be. Last but not least they are over priced :o

I cut the front lower section out and made my own cover to fit a 120mm, worked great! Even without the watercooling.

yeah i just read that in another post i created about the fan in the cooling section :(

Kris, that sounds like a great idea actually, one 120mm fan would probably out perform and out silence any two 80mm fans out there. Did you modify the face plate at all, or did you still get good performance the way the face plate was?

it also looks like you sacraficed the front USB support too... i never ever use my front USB support because it nevers seems to work though

Currently my USB cover and board are removed so it alloted for additional flow, toher than that my front cover is unmodded, I intend to remove a LARGE section of it and replace with mesh
but havent had the chance.

Here is how it currently is, tape and all since I havent started my cuts yet. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v204/DopefishLives/computer/case003.jpg
I did remove the tape from the existing holes in front that was intended for the 80mm's.

looks like it will turn out to be a really nice case :) I've also pushed around the idea of enlarging the top blowhole to replace the top 80mm with a 120mm

do you have a view of your comp with the 120mm in it with a straight on angle such as the one i've quoted?

Sorry for the delay, here is an image of everything apart to show what cuts were made, etc.

that picture is very helpful, thank you

did you use a dremel to cut it?

Yea, I made a template from graph paper, test fitted it to the case then took it to some sheet alu I had and cut from there. Once I finished cutting I took some 600grit sand paper and rounded the edges so that it wouldnt end up eating my hands later.

I left a lot of material on the front of the case itself around the original 80mm mounts as I wanted to be sure I'd have good mounting points (original 80mm holes & 3.5" bracket holes) and to assure it wouldnt become flimsy.

Nice job on the 80mm->120mm conversion. I just picked up a second PC-70 and was lamenting how out of date it was with all 80mm fan mountings. It occurred to me that a 120mm could be modded in there, but I didn't check it.

Nice to know that it will work if I decide to go that way.
