i've been thinking about getting a network enclosure for my hard drive so i can have storage accessible to all my computers. i've been reading around and it seems that some enclosures require the partition to be in FAT32, are there any limitations to using a FAT32 partition? or is using FAT32 completely ok?

I hadn't heard that they require fat32. That would limit you to 4 (and sometimes 2) GB files, and problems with disks over something like 32GB IIRC. Fat32 isn't a filesystem, it's a limitation.

I just have an HP e-pc c 10. Just a little computer, put a handle on the back, set up a samba ftp and VNC and called it a day. it works great and i have had no problems with it at all.
i've experimented with NAS distros, but i can get everything working how i like with 2K pro, so thats what i'm with.
if you use a PC and OS solution to your file serving it will give you almost limitless options. plus, if there are any important files you can easily have some sort of redundant storage. I don't think i could ever settle for some simple nas device

I have been using some INOI NAS HD Enclosures on my home NW.
Used within the limitation of a sub $100 device they are pretty cool.
Pro's: Cheap network storage, pretty simple setup.
Con's: Slow transfer speed, Fat32 only, need to be reset every once in a while, cooling fan a bit loud.
