Transferring 50GB of large TV video files between SATA drives on different channels.

I'm averaging about 10 Mbyte/sec, and the speed is very erratic and using up a lot of cpu time (making windows slow). Got a gig of ram and a 3200+ processor, so this really shouldnt be happening.

Any idea why it's so slow?#

process explorer says 60-90% cpu time is "deferred procedure calls". any ideas?

Ah, think I've found the problem :-

Excessive errors - guess the drive is faulty then. RMA?

Isn't this one of those problems that arises because SATA cables are not shielded?

We'll because SATA cables are not shielded, they are suceptable to interferance, or something like that.

Some reading material for you on the subject.

are there any recommended shielded cables on the market? (ie, i dont trust random companies that market their cables as shielded).

weird about the not tie clipping them together thing. i've seen *tons* of pics with people tieing their sata cables together. looks neat and they run well due to their shape.
