Alrighty...here's a good one for you all to answer. Yesterday, my computer mysteriously restarted itself, and came up with an problem when booting "error loading OS", I restarted the computer, it made it to the Windows XP loading screen, where it froze up. I figured I needed to reinstall Windows. So, I go to put the boot disk in and reformat the hard drive/reinstall Windows. It makes it only so far as Checking for other versions of Microsoft Windows before it freezes (in the setup). Very odd. So, I figure I'll try to run repair console....no go. Then I tried to install Windows 2000 Professional, it goes through setup, formats the hard drive, but won't load the installation files onto it. Well, I fired up Knoppix (it was my only hard drive, and this is my only method of using the computer presently), and I found that you can still access all the old files that were supposed to have been formatted over from within Knoppix. So apparently the drive didn't reformat after all.
Also, I've noticed that when the computer is reset using the reset button on the computer, the Silicon Image 3112 SATA controller that is integrated into my NF7-S v2 doesn't detect my drive (brand new as of 6 months ago Seagate Barracuda 250GB 8MB cache drive - last hard drive coincidentally did something akin to this - that was a WD 120GB SATA). I can't explain what is going on...I am getting the feeling the SATA controller is borked or something, but I'd like some opinions from the masses here. Leave me what info you can, along with any questions you might have that I can answer to help you help me.
Appreciate all the help in advance.
