I bought an external USB HDD. When I connect it to PC it detects new hardware (both - USB mass storage & HDD itself) it is in device manager but I cannot find the icon of it so I can't put anything in my HDD. Same thing happened in my both PCs (Win XP home)
Any ideas?

Thx in advance

Look in "Disk Management" under the Computer Management console. Likely you don't have any partitions on the disk; this will let you add one. Right click on the disk and select "new volume" and follow the wizard.

If its not showing up at all, its not just partitions. you have to add a Windows ID to the drive, so go into drive management (My Computer -> right click -> manage -> disk management) and tell it to give it an ID, then format it.
