I saw a list from a guy selling a opened Win Xp pro upgrade. He say's it would be fime and should have no trouble activating.
My question- How? He didn't state retail or oem, how do you tell? Don't understand how he can resell his copy or can he? Yeah,I'm a noob when it comes to all this here high tech stuff :D

Does it face east or west :D
Would there be any problems in activating it?

east and west and even north and south
The activation part is the key... if it works great but unless you know this guy you never know.. how much does he want for it?

$100
AND I don't know him. I'm not buying it just wondering if it would work if I did. I thought you could only activate it on one computer or something like that.

That's exactly right.. 1 time..... now it may never have been activated and even if it was you "might" get away with it.. but I'd save my money and just buy a full version from newegg or someone you know

OEM was selling for ~130 on NewEgg a couple of weeks ago.

If it's a full retail version you should be ok. You can move that copy from computer to computer, as long as you run it on only one at a time.
But for the price of OEM XP Pro ~$150, I would buy that and not worry about it.

You cannot transfer OEM licenses. If it's used, report him to a mod and have the thread closed. It is against the EULA and if you try to activate it will make you call MS. If you tell them you bought it off a forum they'll tell you you're SOL.

OEM Licences
OEM stands for 'Original Equipment Manufacturer'. These licences are supplied with software that an OEM pre-installs on a computer. The licence for a Windows operating system is for use only on the computer system on which the software was pre-installed, and it lives and dies with the original PC. An OEM Operating System licence can never be transferred to another PC.
When software is pre-installed on a new desktop PC, the End User Licence Agreement (EULA) must be accepted when the user first turns on the PC. This type of licence is an agreement between the PC manufacturer (the OEM) and the end user.

Yeah, but this was for a retail upgrade version, not OEM. Even retail version can give you trouble activiating - I have to call microsoft every time with mine as I've done it so often. As long as you have the cd-key on the cert of authenticity (which was on the blue binder-thingey iirc) you're good. If it's just a disk with the key written on w/ magic marker, I'd pass.

According to him it's an OEM copy.

Or are you the guy trying to sell it to him? ;)
Microsoft purges the activation info every few months, so if it's been out of use for a while it will activate without a problem. And being retail you are allowed to buy/sell it and install on a different machine anyway.

I said he didn't say which it was. This is a upgrade version I saw on craigslist, and was wondering how or if it was legal. I am buying a different copy from someone else on this forum. does that help clear it up any?
