Not crazy hot, but it appears to be the best deal out there for a decent 17in WS. Best post holiday discount I have seen.

Digging down from the front page only yeilds a $300 discount. Go figure. Also if you are really cheap you can opt for a 90 day warrenty and get it for 970+ship+tax.

Ya it is the starship enterprise. LARGE lappy there, I liked mine but if you like to actually carry it with you this isnt it.

I rounded up this deal for my Dad. His desktop is a puttering P3. Being retired they travel a lot more these days. At first I was working on getting a real solid 6000 with a 15inch screen. First hes like: you know... I like the larger screen....ya know...I checked out the screen upgrade inperson and I like it.... :eek: The big screen is a good idea for them, the use foxfire and blow up fonts to scary oldster levels. They dont fly to much so there is no need for a laptop that will fit on a tray-table.

Anyway, with his upgrade fever the list came to 17XX but the discount incrimented to 500 at this level. So the thing ended up being ~1300 shipped tax included. Not bad for a powerful machine. No need to make it gaming friendly, this thing is already more then he needs.

The upgrade from an $800 6000 to a $999 9300 gets you a screen size,base ram, and hd, bump. That $200 nets you a lot

I loved taking my 8600 to lan parties. Setup and teardown was super simple and no hassle at all. Always had loads of compliments for doing it, too. Now, it just can't handle the latest and greatest. Sniff. The dual core mobile chips are out, though. Maybe I'll see what's out in 15 months or so and possibly upgrade. Dunno. I still wanna buy another bass (not the fish :p )

I'm guessing the price drop is due to the dual core mobiles coming out and Dell wants to get some buyers that don't want to hold off and wait for the dual core deals.

how is the heat production? I have a presario X6000 and it honestly puts out too much heat for it to be a "lap"top burns my nuts like crazy so then I prop it up and it burns either my legs or belly.

It's a rather portable laptop with a beautiful 17" screen.

I've typed papers while we were driving. It gets warm, but not too hot.

as far as gaming, I played numerous games (including farcry and FEAR), without any problems. Probably should upgrade the ram from 512 though.

I purchased mine for $950 about eight months ago, before they started charging sales tax. I used two different coupons, fatcash, and two post-purchase discounts.

not many people know this, but if you get the 9300 notebook from dell you can also call dell replacement parts and get a 7800gtx mobile for it for $280 :eek: (that includes the card, taxes, and shipping).

The dell xps is like an alienware notebook, costing 3 grand, it comes with the 7800gtx.

you call them up and tell them you bought a xps on ebay and you need a replacement video card for it.

worked like a charm, you'll also need a 9 cell batt. and 130w adaptor and new bios.

Which screens do you guys have on the inspiron 9300? I tend to always upgrade screens since I use mine 10+hrs every single day! but my last Dell with upgraded screen is really rather unusable.
