Ok, so I got an X-fi Extreme Music for X-mas. To make a long story short, my friend has an Audigy2 with the LiveDrive bay and the pinout looks identical to the X-fi. It's got the same IDE connector that fits on the X-fi. I was not able to test my theory while I was there for lack of my desktop and some magical problems with his, but would an Audigy or Live! 5.5 bay work on the X-fi? Yes, it would be white (Spray paint anyone?), but since you can get one on ebay for around $25-30, It would be a nice addon since I might potentially need the connectivity. Anybody tried this?

IIRC the hardware in the box is not as good as the Xfi, but it will work. Hell, for 30$ try it. See if your happy...........

Sorry to jack the thread, but I'm wondering a similar question...
I have the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. Is there a way for me to upgrade to an Audigy X-Fi, and use the breakout box that came with the Audigy 2? Just trying to see if I can save some money on the X-Fi, otherwise I'll probably just continue waiting.
If the breakout box has some special name, I'm sorry, I don't know what it is. But it's got every connection imaginable and uses a modified firewire and some other connector to the sound card.

The pinout arrangement was changed from the Live / A1 to the Audigy2 and up. (They're reversed) So, no, a bay from an Audigy1 will not work.

Just wanted to update this thread by stating I've gotten an X-Fi and tried hooking the AD_EXT to my Audigy 2 "5 & 1/2 Bay", and it worked FLAWLESSLY. Detected the X-Fi as the Platinum Edition so that was really cool. Even the A2 remote works!
Even though I've heard that you may lose some power from using the old bay, and not having the real X-Fi bay, I must say, to be honest, I still notice a very clear and distinct improvement over the switch from A2 to X-Fi. Many options and configurations you can have for whatever suits your needs. I love this thing, and it makes me love my headphones even more now! But also tempts me to go buy a new pair of headphones too :)
